Here is a Method That is Helping Seniors to Live Well

Here is a Method That is Helping Seniors to Live Well

Phoenix, AZ September 20, 2010

Living alone is hard on the elderly and even couples often experience the rigors of advancing conditions and emotional isolation. People want to stay in their own homes and not feel dependent on their children. They certainly do not want to be a burden.

Ask any social worker, people don’t want to leave their homes, even when they may be uncomfortable or struggling to take care of themselves. It is psychologically normal for seniors to become extremely attached to their familiar surroundings, even if it hurts them. It is also psychologically normal to become attached to caregivers.

Scottsdalecaregiving.com has responded to the current growing issues of those seniors who are committed to staying in their home by developing the concept of a Caregiving Team, which distributes the burden of caregiving to several team members. A Caregiving Team bypasses the dependency issue, still maintains regular relationships, and provides seniors with the ability to easily change personnell when desired.

The Caregiving Team falls within the definition of a Lifecare Management System. The objectives of an LMS include avoiding nursing homes, providing care equal to or better than found in assisted living, and managing costs while achieving the ultimate goal of any senior, that of living well.

In the view of Scottsdalecaregiving.com, living well for the frail elderly involves anticipating the needs of seniors before disaster strikes. This includes a process of assessment, preparation, and communication between caregivers and managers. Situations to avoid are attachment to individually hired caregivers and inadequate emotional support which perpetuates interpersonal conflict.

Consult with www.scottsdalecaregiving.com 623-207-9559 to learn more about their Caregiving Team concept.

Fall Family Festival offers kids’ activities, health and safety information

Free event to be held at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Medical Center, Oct. 16

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Sept. 9, 2010) – From a teddy bear clinic, pumpkin patch and petting zoo to car seat checks and information on infant and adult CPR, there’s something for both children and parents at Scottsdale Healthcare’s free Fall Family Festival, Oct. 16, 8 a.m.-12 p.m.

During the teddy bear clinic, attendees can have nurses check out and bandage their fuzzy friend while touring the new pediatric emergency department at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Medical Center, which is the Northeast Valley’s only children’s emergency department.

Attendees also will have an opportunity to meet primary care physicians, obstetricians and pediatricians, as well as participate in environmentally friendly drug disposal. Unwanted or expired prescription or over-the-counter drugs can be given to the Scottsdale Police Department for incineration. This prevents drugs from ending up in ground water if flushed down the toilet, or being found by children or others if thrown away.

Other demonstrations and activities include:

· Fingerprinting for children

· Inflatable bouncy castle

· Bike, helmet, pool and sun safety

· Vendor, concession and activity booths

· Tours of Scottsdale Healthcare’s Family Birthing Center

· Food drive benefiting the Vista Del Camino food bank (non-perishable food items welcome)

The Fall Family Festival will be held outdoors at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Medical Center, 9003 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale. Directions: Turn south off of Shea Blvd. onto 92nd St., turn west on North Ln., then turn north to enter a free visitors’ parking garage.
